Thursday 11, Villa Gregoriana
Villa Gregoriana was created out of the necessity to defend the town of Tivoli from the ruinous floods of the Aniene river. The villa is positioned in a very steep valley, in ancient times called the " Valley of Hell ", carved out at the foot at the ancient acropolis of Tivoli by the river which here, in two drops, descends over 130 meters . A spectacular view is given by the Great Waterfall, magnificent and impressive in the powerful rush and roar of its water. This unique Villa is on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
Travertine stone is quarried in special geological areas whose conformation determines the quality and special features of the extracted material. The present travertine quarries are in the Lazio region, right in the heart of prime territory for extracting Roman travertine. Situated in Tivoli Terme , in the plain surrounding the carbonic acid-rich Acque Albule springs, it is the perfect area for the formation and quarrying of a material that is prized and resistant, unique, and famous around the world. The Colosseum and the majority of roman monuments were built by using this hard stone. For more information, please visit the following website: http://www.travertino.it/
Baths, Acque Albule : Within walking distance from the conference venue there are the largest thermal pools in Europe , 6,000 m 2 , where besides healthy dips in sulphureous waters, it is also possible to perform mud-baths, balneotherapy, hydromassage, inhalation, aerosol, insufflation, crenotherapy, massotherapy. The baths are open during the day from 9 to 18, and some facilities require a medical visit. The price for entry, about 15 Euro/day, and for the other facilities is not included in the registration fee. More information will be available at the hotel venue and at the website
